Moritz Adam Schmitt (*1990, Cologne) works as an illustrator and visual artist.
Already during his design studies (2013–2016), he established himself as an illustrator
and has since realized projects for international clients such as Porsche,
Xbox, the NFL, Microsoft, and many others.
Originally intended as a form of self-therapy and a temporary escape from the digital
world dominating his work life, in 2023 he swapped the screen
for brushes, paint, and canvas. What initially began as a balance
quickly evolved into the focus of his creative work and is now
his primary field of activity. In addition to experiments with paper, linocut, and painting
everyday objects, acrylic paint on canvas is his central
medium.
The resulting works, always in the same color palette, appear
colorful, cheerful, and playful at first glance. The vibrant visual world, which emerged
simultaneously with Moritz Adam Schmitt's credo "Live, Love, Have Fun!", initially served
to positively influence his own emotional state during painting and at the same time to arouse the curiosity of viewers. On closer
inspection, however, it becomes clear that serious content
is hidden behind the colorful facade. His pictures process personal experiences, fears, and doubts,
but also address societal issues such as environment, climate, and social
injustice — sometimes admonishing, sometimes empowering.
The aim of his art is to give visibility to these topics, to raise awareness,
and to encourage engagement with the underlying problems.
In summary, the works of Moritz Adam Schmitt are a reflection of the
challenges our society faces today...
packaged in a colorful, childishly playful visual language.
