Moritz Adam Schmitt

Moritz Adam Schmitt (*1990, Cologne) works as an illustrator and visual artist.

During his design studies (2013–2016), he began working as a freelance illustrator

and has since completed projects for international clients such as Porsche,

Xbox, the NFL, Microsoft, and many others.

Originally conceived as a form of self-therapy and a temporary escape from a work routine dominated by

the digital world, he traded the screen for brushes, paint, and canvas in 2023. What initially started as a balance

quickly developed into the core of his creative practice and is now his primary field of work. Alongside experiments

with paper, linocut, and painting everyday objects, acrylic on canvas has become his central medium.

At first glance, his works—consistently created within the same color palette—appear bright, cheerful, and playful.

This colorful visual language, which emerged alongside his credo “Live, Love, Have Fun!”, initially served to positively

influence his emotional state while painting and to spark curiosity in the viewer. However, upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that serious themes lie beneath the vibrant surface. His paintings process personal experiences, fears, and doubts,

while also addressing societal issues such as the environment, climate, and social injustice—sometimes cautionary, sometimes empowering.

The aim of his art is to bring visibility to these topics, raise awareness, and encourage engagement with the underlying issues.
